Course Purpose

    Explores the craft of short story writing. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the craft of fiction writing through reading assignments, brainstorming activities, and cumulative writing assignments. Engages in the deep study of the five elements of plot: exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, and resolution. Examines nonfiction writing skills such as writing dialogue, building suspense, developing characters, and creating a strong sense of place. The course culminates with the completion of an original work of short fiction.
